I get what you're saying about RAWs, Jim, I do. There's nothing like elegantly opening up shadows or recovering highlights that you didn't even know were there.

My point is, the technology is evolving to the point where we don't need to rely so much on a full frame sensor to shoot in low light or to drop out a background. A good test for this theory will be Apple ProRAW where you use computational photography as a starting point then finish off with a RAW workflow.

With software like that, we should be able to use cropped sensors, lighter lenses and more nimble cameras to achieve the same results as FF. But the only folks I see talking about this potential are smartphone makers. I hope I'm wrong and will be surprised by Canon, Nikon, and Sony.
